User interface

Password Depot has a very intuitive and easy-to-use interface.

The buttons located on the tool bar include the most important and most used functions (these functions are also available in the menu system).

The tool bar allows the user to perform certain tasks faster and easier. The functions for the Add, Modify, Delete, Search and Sort buttons can also be found in the Password menu, the functions for Print, Options and Lock can be found in the File menu and the functions for Top bar and view can be found in the View menu. The Help menu displays the context of the help file. In the Tools menu you can configure Password Depot individually.

NOTE: In Password Depot there are many key shortcuts available, which help you to quickly access frequently used functions.

The window structure of Password Depot allows the user to configure the interface to fit his/ her needs. Password Depot has three windows:

Groups window

This window is situated on the left side of the screen. Its main purpose is to display the tree-like structure of the password groups. This way you can see the structure of an entire password list and you can navigate it without getting lost.

Also from this window, using the New Group, Delete Group and Rename Group buttons situated on top of the Groups window, you can modify the groups of a password list. If you click the Groups window, you can use the Add button to add a group and the Delete button to delete one.

The content of the selected group from the Groups window is displayed in the Passwords - My passwords window. If the selected group is empty, the Passwords - My passwords window will contain only the <Back> Group that allows you to return to the parent group of the selected group. The same operation can be done by using the Group up button.

This window can be closed by using the Close button top right.

NOTE: You cannot rename or delete the My passwords group, because the Delete Group and Rename Group buttons are not active when this group is selected.

Passwords - My passwords window

This window is situated in the center of the screen. As the principal window it cannot be closed. From this window you have access to your passwords and you can manage them as you wish. All the functions from the Password menu refer to this window.

The Passwords - My passwords window displays the passwords from the selected group in the Groups window. Whenever you select another group, the contents of this window will be changed to display the newly selected group.

The passwords are shown with some additional information, like Last Modified, Expiry Date, User Name, URL and Comments. You can sort the list ascending/descending following these criteria by clicking on the header of each column.

Each item in this window has a small icon. See explanation of these icons below:

You can use the Add button to add a password, the Delete button to delete the selected items and the Modify button to modify the selected password. Press Enter to enter/exit a group and the PageUp/PageDown keys to scroll the list.

On top of this window, there are five buttons. You can also find these functions in the Password menu:

On right mouse click, the Password menu options will be displayed. Notice that many functions from the Password menu option and the five buttons are not active all the time. That is because those functions operate only when a single password is selected from the list. If a single password is selected, the functions from the Password menu and the five buttons will be available or inactive, depending on the information provided for this password.

From the Passwords - My passwords window you can also move passwords from one group to another. You just have to select the passwords you want to move and then drag & drop them over the destination group.

NOTE: Groups cannot be moved.

The Passwords - My passwords window can be maximized using the button top right.

Detailed Information window

This window is situated on the right side of the screen. Its purpose is to display the information about a selected password in a more compact space, so that the user can read this information quicker (without scrolling sideways the Passwords - My passwords window)

The Detailed Information window is not that essential, so if you do not need it, you can close it, using the Close button on the top right corner.
