The Import list and Export list functions can be found in the Tools menu. These functions allow you to import passwords from a file or to export the current password list to a file.
The Import list and Export list functions are very useful, enabling a good interaction between Password Depot and other password managers.
This function exports all the passwords in the current password list to a file. The file formats supported by Password Depot are:
csv (comma separated file)
txt (text file)
The csv file has the following structure: each line contains a password and each password has eight fields that are separated by commas. The order of the eight fields is:
Description
Importance
Password
Creation Date
Expiry Date
User Name
URL address
Comments
The txt file actually is a list that has the same format as a printed password list. For more information about this format check Print List.
NOTE: It is not recommended to leave exported txt files on your computer because this way your passwords are unprotected. Txt files are useful, if you want to make a copy of your passwords on a disk and later view them without Password Depot, or if you want to send your passwords to someone by email.
This function imports passwords from a file. The only format supported by Password Depot is ".csv" (comma separated file).
Importing passwords from another password manager may prove to be a very difficult task, if you do it manually (password by password). Importing every single password takes a lot of time and energy.
You just have to export the passwords to a csv file and then import that csv file with Password Depot. Notice that imported passwords will be stored in the currently active group (the group displayed in the Passwords - My passwords window).
NOTE: The structure of the imported csv file must be exactly as described in the Export list paragraph in order to get the Import list function to work properly. If some fields from a password are missing or if they are empty, those fields will appear in the csv file as two consecutive commas.
