Encrypt and decrypt external files

Using Password Depot you can easily encrypt or decrypt external files no matter what the fomat is.

Function "Encrypt external files"

With the function Encrypt external files you can encrypt any files using one password so that no non-authorized person can access your data.

To encrypt your files do as follows:

  1. From the Tools menu select option Encrypt external files.

  2. In the dialog box that opens select the file you wish to encrypt and click Open.

  3. In the dialog box Password Depot - Encrypt enter the password in the Enter password field.

  4. Repeat the password in the Confirm password field.

  5. To remove the original file, check option Delete original file(s) after encryption. This option is useful if you wish to encrypt a file that has been accessible for several people and to delete the version which could be accessed by all. The original file is then deleted without any traces from the hard disk thanks to secure algorithms.

  6. Click OK to encrypt the file.

 

Function "Decrypt external files"

With the function Decrypt external files you can decrypt any encrypted files if you have a valid password.

To decrypt files do as follows:

  1. From the Tools menu select option Decrypt external files.

  2. In the dialog box that opens select the encrypted file (*pwde) which you wish to decrypt.

  3. Click Open.

  4. Enter the corresponding password of the file into the Password Depot - Encrypt dialog box.

  5. Click OK to decrypt the file.
